Bridal Shower Fruit Tart

This month, I had the opportunity to co-host a bridal shower for a childhood friend of mine. She is getting married this week, and we honored her with a bridal shower at a local venue. Since baking is my passion, and I am always looking for a way to make new recipes, I wanted to make a special dessert to go with her special day.

Enter the classic fruit tart. This kind of dessert is pretty common in the UK, but is less common here in the South where cakes, etc. seem to reign supreme. I used a recipe from Cooks Illustrated, and used their modifications to accommodate my larger tart pan.

The tart has a sweet pastry crust, classic pastry cream filling, and fresh fruit on top. This is best assembled right before your event, so I was in my nice clothes putting the fruit on top right before the shower guests arrived. It turned out well and was a big hit with the guests.

Originally I had wanted to make individual fruit tarts, but realized at some point that would've been way too much of a time commitment given all the other things I was helping to coordinate with the shower. So next time I revisit this recipe, perhaps mini tarts it will be!
